Coming to the end of a long month and long year…

It’s Christmas Eve Eve, and I’ve been pretty busy since I last posted on here, writing for the local newspaper I am a journalist for, and other stuff I’ve been widely occupied by!

It’s that time of year when folks begin to gather amongst family and eat, drink and be merry. Spare a thought though for those who have no family, or partner this time of year, and give thought to the abundance that will most probably be on your table on 25th December if you’re prosperous enough to be able to have internet and a device allowing you to even read this.

I love Christmas, but I can honestly say this year I’ll be nearly glad to see it over, what with ever increasing commercialism, and a shallowness and pressure to ‘keep up with the Jones’ now seemingly attached to it all.

For me, it’s about taking time with family, feasting and preferably in front of an open fire. In Northern Ireland we like to gather in front of a warm cosy fire. I’m as guilty as the next sometimes at failing to bring Jesus into the centre of it all.

imageIt’s also soon after Christmas we start to reflect on the year past, and turn our hearts to the new year ahead. I’ve already been doing so a little recently, and if you’d like to support me in my endeavours for 2015 feel free to take a wee look below and give generously. I have a book draft currently begun the editing process and there is a lot to look forward to in 2015 – despite what the media constantly churns out. Yes there are tough times, but yes there is opportunity for further unity and help to prevail amongst one another, as our economy fails, and we start to realise more and more that spiritual matters, and things of the heart concerning relationships, really matters.

So as you tuck in to your turkey this Christmas, raise a thankful glance towards heaven for the blessing of having food and family around you, and consider Emmanuel – “God with us” – Jesus is the reason for the season, so let’s remind ourselves and keep him at the centre.   Happy Christmas!
